Frederick City Council District 2

District 2 Platform
"I moved to Frederick over 25 years ago. I've raised three kids here and I am a part of this community. I am running for city council for District 2 because I want to make sure that the residents of this district are represented by someone from the community, someone who has their interests at heart. "
ISSUES
Capital Improvement Projects
The city has several large Capital Improvement Projects like the Westside Regional Park and improvements the Hill Street Park that have been in the works for years. The county also has several, Hillcrest Elementary renovations, the West Side Library. As these projects finally move into design stage and construction, it is important the the city council ensures that progress isnt delayed further. Community input is vital at all phases of new projects.
Services
District 2 has the highest population density in the city, yet it hasn't always had the services to reflect it. The city needs to work with state and county partners to improve access to medical services, childcare and social services on the west side. When resources are identified from other agencies, the city need to ensure that facilities are available to provide easy access for residents.
Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is the foundation of a strong, inclusive city where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. When residents aren’t overburdened by high rents or housing insecurity, they can invest more in their families, education, and health. Affordable housing reduces homelessness, strengthens local economies, and helps prevent the displacement of longtime community members.
Traffic
Traffic along the Route 40 corridor has been steadily increasing for years. Neighborhood streets are used as ways around traffic, increasing the number of cars on residential roads. In order to increase safety and reduce gridlock, the city needs to improve existing roads and intersections, complete planned road improvements and ensure the roads keep up with the expansion and growth in the district.
